The Midwest Queer & Trans Zinefest is a two-day fair for QT vendors in the midwest. It started in 2023, and in 2024 incorporated a one-day conference hosted at the Tretter Collection in GLBT Studies. Future events are planned to rotate through different midwest states and regional partners.
MQTZF does not accept applications from any cishet zinesters. Allies are welcomed to attend the zine fest and buy work from queer and trans artists.[1]
Queer & Trans Zine Conference
The inaugural conference was Friday, October 18th, 2024—it was free and open to the public and included featured speakers: Aiden Bettine, Curator of the Tretter Collection; Milo Miller and Chris Wilde, cofounders of the Queer Zine Archives Project; and Zach Frazier of Astringent Press. It was hosted in the Tretter Collection in GLBT Studies at the University of Minnesota (activities included a zine and artist book handling session from the collection and a tour of the archives).[2]
