Validating imported places
Presently, with the import of places from the previous wiki, our big task is validating all of the places that have come in, which have each been assigned a status of "Import." To help with this process:
  1. Read through this help page.
  2. Go to Category:Imported places and select place(s) to work on. If you want to adopt a region, you can use the Faceted search on unknown places, then select In City/State/Country etc. under "Properties," the select the location you want to filter on from the blue list that comes up in the bottom left corner.
  3. Maybe shout out in the #stencil-wiki channel in the Discord what batch of things you will be processing so we aren't duplicating efforts.
  4. Research the space and check/correct the things outlined in this guide—being especially careful to change their status from "Import" to an updated status.
Thank you everyone, happy editing!

The 1064 places in the wiki are a huge body of information that is routinely going out of date. Periodically pages need to be validated—checked for accuracy and updated as needed. In a perfect world, this is managed by the people who run the places represented in the articles, but often this task falls to the broader group of wiki editors.

Places should be validated:

  1. If their status is unknownCategory:Places of unknown status.
  2. If they are active or temporarily closed and have not been edited within 1 year.

Process

For each place, check the following:

  • That the place still exists/is open.
  • That the site link(s) aren't broken.
  • That the ink colors are still correct as far we can tell.
  • That the place type(s) are still accurate.
  • Looking up and adding coordinates if a street address is provided but it isn't showing up properly on the map.

If the place is active, but the article is a stub (fairly empty, limited content):

  • Pull a description from their about page (with citation) for the article text if it's blank.
  • Link to a shop/blog/or social media if they have one.
  • Add any services their site describes.

Do NOT add any people to the page in this process unless you have direct permission from them. Names and information should only be listed by the people themselves or with their consent (see Help:Community guidelines for more information).
